Participate in a Patient Care Technician Certification (PCT) education program, once the class room training is completed the PCT Trainee provides assistance to professional nursing staff in the care of residents/patients through performance of routine direct and indirect resident/patient care activities, according to established policies and procedures. Maintains resident/patient rights, privacy, and confidentiality. Promotes resident/patient acceptance of treatment goals and responds promptly to overall resident/patient needs. The PCT Trainee will be permitted to work in this capacity until passing the state competency examination.

Instruction consists of core course content with clinical experiences in one or two health related occupations. The core curriculum consists of planned courses for introduction of health careers, basic anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, legal and ethical aspects of health care and communications, and at least three (3) planned courses for the knowledge and skills for the occupational area such as medical assisting, ward clerk, nursing assisting, etc.

The Health Occupations instructional program is designed to prepare individuals for entry-level employment in a minimum of three (3) related health occupations under the supervision of a licensed health care professional.

 

Requirements to Test for PCT Certification:

  • Required to pay $109 to take PCT certification

  • Complete 2 years in the Health occupations program

  • 10 unexcused and excused absences or less in one semester

  • Maintain an 80% in knowledge

  • Have shown professionalism and be without discipline for the duration of program
